80 percent of gender-based violence is domestic

According to the statistics released by the police during the 16-day campaign against gender violence that started today, when analyzing the cases registered with the police, 89 percent of women and girls are subjected to violence by acquaintances.

Dr. Manoj Kumar KC, Senior Superintendent of Police, Directorate of Women, Children and Senior Citizen Services pointed out that it is a tragedy to be subjected to violence by acquaintances, and there is a need for active participation of the community to prevent it.

According to the details, only 67 percent of cases of domestic violence are between husband and wife. In the last one year, 16,519 cases of domestic violence and 4,394 cases of other gender-based violence have been registered with the police.

In terms of age group, 63 percent of the victims are girls (11 to 16 years old). About 38 percent of the perpetrators are between 10 and 25 years old. 50% of violence was caused by showing fear, fear, and shock, 35% by giving chocolate and 14% by showing desire to marry.
