Smartphones reducing men's sperm levels

With the increase in the use of mobile phones, many studies are being done about its effects on human health. Meanwhile, a surprising thing has come out about the effect of mobile phone use on men.

Studies have shown that the use of mobile phones can reduce the level and number of semen in men, i.e. both sperm quality and quantity. The study also showed that there is no relationship between whether the phone is kept in the pants pocket or elsewhere and the level of semen.

Studies have shown that frequent use of mobile phones that generate electromagnetic radiation can affect semen and reduce the number of semen. The results of this study have also been published in Fertility and Sterility Journal. In the last 50 years there has been a massive decline in semen levels. To understand this, several factors were studied.

How was the calculation?

A team from the University of Geneva in Switzerland conducted a cross-selection study based on data from 2,886 Swiss men aged 18 to 22 between 2005 and 2018. At the same time, it was found that sperm concentration is low due to frequent use of mobile phones. Average sperm concentration was found to be 56.5 million/ml in men who did not use mobile phones more than once a week. The sperm concentration of those who used mobile phones more than 20 times a day was 44.45 million/ml.

In other words, sperm count really depends on how much you use your mobile phone. The level of sperm is not determined only by the use of mobile phones. According to World Health Organization (WHO) parameters, if a man's sperm concentration is less than 15 million per milliliter, it takes more than a year to conceive. When sperm concentration is less than 40 million per milliliter, chances of pregnancy are low.

Sperm count has almost halved in the last 50 years

According to some studies, sperm levels have decreased over the past 50 years. The average sperm count of 99 million per milliliter 50 years ago has dropped to 47 million per milliliter. Environmental factors and lifestyle factors such as diet, alcohol, stress, smoking, etc. also lead to low sperm count .
